We recently tested the performance of the truck at Telluride's heights on a drive to the Bridal Veil Power Plant, a point 10,200 feet above sea level and the prouction site for power in our pilot project. The truck performed admirably though we noticed it used quite a bit of hydrogen while climbing. This is a very steep road and Tai, the builder, was pleased with the engine's performance under heavy, steady loading.

Serving as a prototype and promotional vehicle, the H2TOY has made the rounds of the country burning an assortment of alternative fuels: Hydrogen, compressed natural gas, propane, and ethanol. The conversion retains unleaded fuel capability for those times when no alternative is available, but in the system surrounding the Four Corners region we will make hydrogen available by 2010.

In the first round pilot project, several of these trucks will be placed in a fractional lease program. There is a $15K initiation fee to join the program, and upon introduction a monthly payment of $350 continues your participation. Those who take part will be the true early adopters of hydrogen fuel, partners in the first commercial hydrogen infrastructure project in the world.

As folks get closer and realize this pickup is carrying more than great looks they lean in for more. For many, the hands-on experience of this prototype is an eye-opener to the continuing spirit of invention and innovation. In building the Telluride Power infrastructure we will perform conversions to at least 200 of these and build a fleet supported by renewable sourced, clean burning hydrogen.

We use the latest in electrolyzer designs fed by small-scale hydroelectric power and photo-voltaic solar installations to produce hydrogen from water. The process vents oxygen to the air, a side effect that we can all agree is a healthy gas. When you take off on that road trip with hydrogen on board, your exhaust is mainly water vapor. Placing your face next to the stainless-steel exhaust is much like stepping into a sauna, the refreshing steam soothing your lungs with each gentle inhalation, quite a difference from the suffocating result of gasoline combustion.
